Typically, when you purchase a new cell phone you’re forced to lock yourself into at least a 2-year contract which nets you a nicely subsidized device. However, if you chose to buy the device outright for the full retail price you usually expect to use it on whatever carrier you want. With the Dell Streak, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
According to Dell’s Lionel Menchaca, the $549 version of the Dell Streak with no contract will still be locked to AT&T.
This is quit the bummer for those who were looking to purchase the Streak and then use it on a carrier of choice. But oh well, for those of you looking to pick the device up it will be available later this year when an unlock is sure to be made available at some point
