HTC Desire to be launch by US Cellular

Gearing up to launch its second Android smartphone, U.S. Cellular said in a press release it would begin to sell the HTC Desire starting August 27.  Its first Android smartphone is the Samsung Acclaim, so now customers will have the option of choosing between the Acclaim and the Desire.

In terms of specs, the HTC Desire features a 3.7 inch touch screen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5MP camera, integrated GPS, WiFi, and operates on Android 2.1.  U.S. Cellular will pre-load the HTC Desire with a few of its own apps such as: My Contacts Backup, City ID, Tone Room Deluxe and Your Navigator Deluxe.  Unfortunately, most users will find these pre-loaded apps unnecessary, but the reality is a lot of cell phone carriers are starting to do that.  No word on pricing at the moment, but I’m sure we’ll find out that piece of information as we get closer to the launch.

U.S. Cellular plans to launch a few more Android phones before the year is out, including the Samsung Galaxy S (making it the fifth U.S. carrier) in October, and then two more LG Android smartphones later on.
