Be careful with what you say

A few days ago I was totally distracted with my professional life. I just encountered some of the most hushed comment from my officer. It was a comment that constantly repeats every time we meet. I didn’t know why she treats me that way, I do my job well, I get praises from office mates and I’m always effective with my job role.

Here is the thing, she constantly says that our janitor looks more descent than I am. How’s that possible I ask myself with a question mark. I wear my uniform all the time while our janitor wear shirt. I am more good looking than our janitor. I graduated with flying colors and I was employed in a reputable institution because of my good educational background. I have no against our janitor, but he started bugging me, in ways that irritates me like he asked favors to give him a glass of water (his work), of course that were jokes, but as we know jokes are half meant right? For several days I kept ignoring the issue, but there are times that I feel that I have to fight back if not by fu**@# words then by actions. The week was about to end I decided to go to the mall and buy things that can boost back my morale, I should physically have a make over I told myself. I went to a salon and have my hair done, I bought new coat and a Van Heusen polo, a pair of shoes to kick some ass. Maybe our officer saw some loophole in my career that I am taking for granted my looks. I am not vengeful, but this time I need to prove that I am no nonsense. I maybe silent, but I can totally fight and provoke you with my actions. Friday came, I was so geared up to meet my officer. The people in the office were so amazed with my transformation, honestly I never felt this confident for weeks. They greeted me nicely and warmly it is as if they saw a celebrity. My officer saw me and guess what, she appreciated my get up and told me I look like a manager I just replied thanks I am always at my best you just don’t see it with a smile of course. At least I proved that I am no nonsense and I am different to our janitor that a person is not entitled to prejudge another person just like my officer did. I just hoped that my officer would be more careful of her words next time becauseĀ  she can offend people.

  1. What you did is right…the make-over and becoming more presentable. Criticism is just normal in a workplace. Positive criticism should be taken as they are and negative criticism should be taken as a challenge so we can improve ourselves more. And let others see how effective and efficient we are in our jobs.
