Lucky Food for the Chinese New Year!
Chinese believes that preparing green on the New Year Eve gives financial fortune. Accordingly green leafy vegetables especially those that are collard like broccoli, lettuce and cabbage symbolizes money. Greens makes a doubly lucky preparation because the Cantonese word for lettuce is “rising fortune,” so why not make a lettuce wrap as a New Year Dish.
Meanwhile aside from green, red colored food like crabs, lobsters and other crustaceans are considered lucky because of their color.
Finally grains like rice and starch symbolizes wealth and abundance because of their many small grains. So there you have it, just a little dose of my Fortune Feasting this Chinese New Year.
